As my website says, my plans have changed slightly (okay a lot) and it happened one fine day when I came across an advert on Craigslist in Vancouver. Interviews for Steiner- the biggest cruise ship training and recruitment company for the spa and fitness industry were being held in the city.
This was a bit of a touchy subject for me as most people knew because I had attended this same interview in Dublin when I finished college in 2013. At that time I was told that I would be hired on the condition that I have my wrist and hand tattoos removed and that I should do this and reapply in a years time! I was shattered and even considered this briefly until I got my act together and decided that if a job would put me in that position then I wouldn't want that job to begin with. I forgot about it....

That was until... Nov 2015 in vancouver when I saw this ad again. I don't know why, but I decided to give it another go and considering this ad actually mentioned 'tattoos had to be approved and then covered while on the ship', I figured I may have a chance. I didn't get my hopes up. In this world you just shouldn't... I accepted the possibility of being knocked back again but despite this I applied and send pictures of my visible tattoos. Next thing I know, I'm approved and invited to interview with them.
The interview went great and was ten times more casual than the one in Dublin, which was so nice. A week later I was emailed a letter of congratulations and all my documents. I couldnt believe it. I gave my job my notice and prepared to plan a trip back to Europe to begin my preparations from there.
February 2016 came fast and in no time I was back at home in small town Dunboyne. A place that never changes and always brings back memories of a pre travelling version of me. Something so foreign to me now. I was home for a short two days before I headed off to Oslo for a short city break courtesy of Ryanairs cheap deals. I had a fantastic time there and got to tick country 49 off my list and what better place to do that than Norway a place I've longed to go.
I got paperwork in place over a few weeks, applied for and received my crew member visa form the US embassy, received my log in details for online training modules which I finished in a day and even managed to pack my suitcase- something that's quite hard when you don't know where youre going in the first place. I manifested my destinations in the form of packing mostly summer clothing. Now let's hope I'm not sent to Antarctica. (Actually that would be a dream come true).
I have a few more weeks here at home which I will spend visiting friends/family, attending yoga classes and going on short trips around my home country.
A new section of the blog has been added now (this section)- Cruise Ship Adventures/Ship Destinations which will home to all of my adventures over the next 9 months. Feel free to follow me, share my website and leave comments as you wish!
