Namaste 'WorldYogis' and welcome to the new yoga section of WorldTravellerz.com.
Yoga for me, started when I was in my mid teens. I came across a yoga asana (postures) DVD which i would regularly practice and i remember loving the calmness of the practice and loving the flexibility even more. I continued to practice yoga asana occasionally and especially during exam times, when i was very stressed. The calmness and stillness of my mind that came with this practice, helped me focus that much more during this stressful time, and times to follow. Yoga was always a way to express myself and my capabilities, while helping to bring mindfulness into my life. I didn't know much about ths part of a yoga practice too much, until the universe brought me all the way to the birthplace of Yoga- Rishikesh, Northern India, in August 2013.

I came across a great school- Rishikesh Yog Peeth, which was situated in Rishikesh, India. After some research I realized that I had found a little gem and that this was a calling for me. I started planning my round the world trip, first stop India, where I planned to study for 6 weeks (most other schools are only 4 weeks or less) to become a Yoga teacher. My plan wasn't to go right out and start teaching though, It was more to better my own self practice, which of course you should do before you plan on teaching. I had to learn more about Yoga, about the philosophies, what yoga is for me and express myself as a human being. Yoga these days, in the western world is based around the yoga asanas (postures) and loses sight of the true meaning of yoga in all aspects. Yoga teacher training involved learning how to meditate properly using different methods, how to do and properly adjust poses and how to breath properly in Pranayama (breath control). There are so many aspects of yoga to consider and the best place for me to get to the heart of it all was in Rishikesh.

At the time of writing this, I am in Rishikesh India once again, 18 months after my first visit to this great place. I have attended many classes of various types of yoga during my travels since India, In Asia and New Zealand and have gained a lot of knowledge from other teachers and through my own self practice. I felt this was the right time to come back. I am currently doing my 300hr teacher training and when I finish, I will continue my self practice no doubt, after leaving here, and hope to start my own classes, sharing my love for the yogic lifestyle with others. I will be moving to Canada this coming summer and will hopefully be based In British Columbia (Victoria or Vancouver) so keep an eye on this page and my blogs, as i update you with information on my classes and my own progress/experiences along the way.
