There's also recent confirmation from visitors that dogs are welcomed inside. A June 2025 review specifically describes bringing a dog inside for drinks and later staying for food, with the reviewer noting that the dog was made very welcome.

That makes M.J. Hoban's a particularly handy choice if you're exploring Westport and don't want to leave your pup behind.

Right in Dublin city centre, MeMa's combines craft beer, cocktails, pizza and a lively atmosphere with something dog owners will appreciate: dogs are currently welcome.

The pub's own website describes it as dog friendly and also highlights its beer garden and weekend DJs, making it a fun option if you're looking for somewhere with a little more atmosphere.

A current dog-friendly listing also confirms that dogs can sit inside, with all sizes and breeds welcome, provided they are kept on a lead.

3. The Martello Bar, Bray
Fancy combining a seaside walk with a drink? The Martello Bar in Bray is a great option for dog owners exploring the Wicklow coast.

Located directly on Strand Road overlooking the sea, the pub and restaurant welcomes dogs in its covered outdoor pergola. It's an especially handy stop after walking along the Bray seafront, with views towards Bray Head while you enjoy a drink or something to eat.

Just bear in mind that the current information specifically refers to the covered outdoor area, so it's worth checking where dogs can sit when you arrive.

4. The Blue Note, Galway
Galway has no shortage of lively pubs, but The Blue Note in the West End is particularly worth knowing about if you're exploring the city with your dog.

Current dog-friendly information confirms that well-behaved dogs are welcome, including inside the pub and in its covered outdoor seating area. There's even a selection of dog treats, including dog beer and steamed sausage beef rolls.

There is one important caveat: the pub can become very busy on weekend nights, and dogs are recommended to stay home during those particularly crowded periods. For a more relaxed visit with your pup, a weekday is therefore likely to be the better choice.

5. The Bulman, Kinsale, Co. Cork
The Bulman is one of Kinsale's best-known pubs and enjoys a spectacular setting close to the water and Charles Fort.

Even better for dog owners, the pub's own website currently confirms that dogs are welcome downstairs in the bar. Dogs aren't permitted in the upstairs restaurant because of health and safety requirements, so make sure you choose the bar area if you're bringing your pup.

That makes The Bulman a particularly good stop if you're exploring Kinsale and want to combine a coastal walk with a drink in a traditional Irish pub.

​6. Sullivan's Taproom, Co. Kilkenny
If you're exploring Kilkenny with your dog, Sullivan's Taproom is a great place to stop for a drink and something to eat.

Located on John Street in the heart of Kilkenny, the taproom is known for its craft beer, handmade pizzas and lively atmosphere. Its beer garden is currently dog friendly, with covered and heated outdoor seating making it possible to visit with your pup throughout much of the year.

It's also a handy stop if you're exploring the city's Medieval Mile, with the taproom just a short walk from Kilkenny Castle. For dog owners, I'd recommend visiting during the day or early evening when the atmosphere is likely to be more relaxed, particularly if your dog isn't comfortable around large crowds. I have visited here during Octoberfest as well as craft beer festivals and Gimli was adored.

​7. Pat Cohan's Bar, Cong, Co. Mayo
If you're exploring Cong and the surrounding Mayo countryside with your dog, Pat Cohan's is a great pub to know about.

This historic pub, which is famously associated with The Quiet Man, currently welcomes well-behaved dogs on leads at dedicated tables indoors. Dogs can also join you at an outdoor table, with a lovely view of Cong village. 

It's a particularly good option for dog owners exploring Cong, as you can combine a walk around the village and its woodland trails with a drink or meal at this atmospheric pub. Don't miss their world famous seafood chowder and deliciously creamy Guinness!!

If you're exploring Killarney with your dog, O'Connors Traditional Pub is a great place to stop for a pint. This lively traditional Irish pub is known for its live music, cosy atmosphere and central location on High Street.

While there isn't a formal dog-friendly policy published online, recent Google reviews and photos show dogs being welcomed inside, making it a popular choice for dog owners visiting Killarney.

Even when a pub advertises itself as dog friendly, it's worth keeping a few things in mind before heading out with your pup. 

• Check the current dog policy before travelling, particularly if you're visiting for the first time.
• Some pubs only allow dogs in certain areas, such as outdoor terraces or specific sections of the bar.
• Busy weekend evenings may not be suitable for dogs, even where they are normally welcome.
• Keep your dog on a lead unless staff specifically say otherwise.

Housed in a beautiful traditional thatched building, this award-winning café combines modern Irish cooking with a strong connection to the local community, language and landscape.

With a focus on seasonal, organic and locally sourced ingredients, POTA offers much more than just a coffee stop — it’s a true Connemara food experience. Better still, dogs are welcome, making it an excellent choice for travellers exploring the region with their four-legged companions and if you want to hang around a little longer, they have dog-friendly accommodation too.

1. Sullivan's Taproom, Kilkenny
Sullivan's Taproom is one of my favourite spots and is a must-visit for craft beer lovers travelling through Kilkenny with a dog. The brewery's popular beer garden is dog friendly, with covered and heated outdoor seating available and they have regular events which make it a fun place to hang out. 

We visited a few times during Octoberfest and their craft beer festival and Gimli was adored by everyone, plus there were plenty of other pooches hanging out there too. 

Dogs are allowed in the outdoor areas, and the venue is regularly described as dog friendly by current listings and visitors. Their pizzas are also heavenly!

2. Wicklow Wolf Brewery & Taproom, Co. Wicklow
Wicklow Wolf Brewery & Taproom is a great stop for anyone exploring the Wicklow countryside with their dog.

The brewery has a relaxed taproom, outdoor seating and its own hop garden, with dogs currently welcome in the outdoor areas. Water bowls and dog treats are also listed among the available dog-friendly amenities.

3. Rascals Brewing Company, Dublin
Rascals Brewing Company is one of the best-known craft breweries in Dublin and is a particularly easy option for dog owners. This is a place I have visited many times and they have delicious woodfired pizza and quirky craft beers which i absolutely love. 

Dogs are welcome in the beer garden, beer tent and terrace, so you can enjoy their craft beers and pizza while your pup relaxes alongside you.

4. O Brother Brewing Taproom, Co. Wicklow
Located at Belmont Demesne near Greystones, O Brother Brewing Taproom is a brilliant stop to combine with a dog walk.

Recent 2025 visitors specifically described the taproom as dog friendly, and the brewery responded to reviews confirming that the space is welcoming to dogs, but we are yet to visit. The outdoor area is particularly suited to enjoying a beer after exploring Belmont Demesne.

5. Blacks Brewing & Distilling, Kinsale, Co. Cork
Blacks Brewing & Distilling is a fantastic option if you're exploring Kinsale and want to discover some local craft beer.

Dogs are permitted at Blacks Brewing & Distilling, although they must be kept on a lead. The brewery also has a dedicated dog policy for visitors, making this one of the more clearly verified options on the list.

6. Tig Bhric & West Kerry Brewery, Co. Kerry
If you're travelling around the Dingle Peninsula with your dog, make sure you know about Tig Bhric & West Kerry Brewery.

This tiny brewery and traditional pub is particularly dog friendly because the brewery's own FAQ confirms that dogs are welcome inside the pub as well as in the guest accommodation. Dogs must remain on a lead in public areas.

7. BrewDog, Dublin
Dublin at Grand Canal Dock is another easy choice if you're exploring Dublin with your dog. If you are a craft beer lover, chances are you've heard of BrewDog who are well known globally! 

The venue's own website currently lists it as dog friendly, alongside its beer garden and outdoor tables. It's a large, lively venue with plenty of space to enjoy a craft beer while your dog joins you.

8. Dead Centre Brewing, Athlone
Situated beside the River Shannon, Dead Centre Brewing is a great place to stop with your dog while exploring Athlone.

The brewery's own website confirms that pets are welcome — and even encouraged — on the riverside decking, where water bowls are provided and dogs may occasionally get treats made from spent grain. Dogs aren't permitted in the dining room because of the open kitchen.

Ireland's craft beer scene makes for some great dog-friendly stops, particularly when you're travelling by car or campervan and exploring different parts of the country.

Few cafés capture the laid-back spirit of the Wild Atlantic Way quite like Shells Café in Strandhill. Situated directly beside the beach, this much-loved café has become a destination in its own right for surfers, walkers, and road-trippers exploring the northwest coast.

Founded in 2010, Shells is built around good coffee, homemade food, and a relaxed atmosphere inspired by the sea. The beachfront location makes it a natural stop after a walk along Strandhill Beach or a climb up Knocknarea Mountain.

For dog owners, Strandhill is already a fantastic destination, and Shells fits perfectly into a dog-friendly day out. The welcoming atmosphere and proximity to the beach make it one of the best café stops for travellers exploring County Sligo with their dogs.

The family-run café is known for its excellent coffee, homemade treats, and spectacular coastal views.

Before setting off, it's always worth checking a café's latest dog policy, as indoor access can vary. I always travel with a collapsible water bowl, treats, waste bags, and a towel for muddy paws, especially after beach walks.
